Belgium clearly dominated Azerbaijan on Sunday evening (5-0) in a match counting for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, but before the match, there was a major mishap with the wrong anthem.
Azerbaijan is not Sweden. Far from it. However, before the match against Belgium, Azerbaijan had a small issue with the anthem at the King Baudouin Stadium.
Normally, the national anthem of the visiting team should have been played first. However, when the Azerbaijanis were about to sing « The Azerbaijani March, » their anthem, the anthem of Sweden was played instead.
To avoid a diplomatic blunder, Romelu Lukaku was able to calm the Azerbaijan players and staff. The correct anthem was eventually played.
