Dani Alves, aged 40, has been convicted by the Spanish justice system for sexual assault and will have to serve a sentence of four and a half years in prison. His hometown wants nothing more to do with him.
From idol to outcast. Following the Brazilian player’s conviction for rape, some residents of Juazeiro, his hometown, are demanding that a statue in his likeness be dismantled. According to Marca, the municipality is seriously considering complying with this request from the local population.
A few months ago, before the judgment was handed down, some residents of Juazeiro had already covered Dani Alves’ statue with a black garbage bag. The former defender has the option to appeal this decision to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia.
