Following Juventus’ relegation due to the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, Lilian Thuram made the decision to join FC Barcelona. This move also marked the fate of his son, Inter striker Marcus Thuram.
As a child at the time, Marcus had the opportunity to meet Lionel Messi, who would go on to become the greatest player in the history of the Catalan club, thanks to his father’s presence at Barça. Marcus recounts a nice episode from their encounter.
« At 10 years old, I went to watch my father train at Barça, and I didn’t have my shoes with me. Messi was young, and after training, he liked to play on the field with the other kids, » revealed the French striker for DAZN.
« Leo was wearing almost the same shoes as me. I wore size 38, and he wore 40-41. He let me wear his shoes, I played, and then he told me ‘keep them.’ At 10 years old, I didn’t realize what had just happened, and the next day, I gave them to a friend. I regret it every day, » added Thuram.
